The Ottawa Humane Society has an agreement with the city of Iqaluit where the OHS will provide shelter to stray dogs from Iqaluit.  Canadian North, the airline that carries the dogs from Iqaluit to Ottawa, gives a pair of tickets to fly to Iqaluit for the OHS to auction them off at their annual fund raiser event: the OHS Fur Ball.  I thought it would be a great opportunity as close to the North Pole as I will likely ever go and take some pictures.  So I did bid on the tickets and won the bid…that’s the story.  

Monique et moi sommes présentement à Iqaluit au Nunavut.  Nous sommes arrivés ici vendredi le 20 juillet en après-midi.  Lorsqu’on arrive ici, on s’aperçoit tout de suite que nous sommes dans le Grand Nord.  Ça fait 3 jours que nous sommes ici et nous n’avons vu aucun arbre.  Du lichen et des petites fleurs, c’est tout ce qui pousse ici.  Il y a de la roche et le nombre d’inukshuks que nous avons vu en témoigne.  Il est presque minuit présentement et il fait clair comme vers 21 h 30 à Ottawa.  Le soleil se lève vers 3 h 30. 

Samedi, nous avons visité le parc Sylvia Grinnell.  La vue du haut de l’escarpement était fabuleuse.  J’ai passé quelques heures prendre des photos dans le parc.  Les 3 premières journées ont été très relaxantes.  Les sujets de photographie sont très variés.  J’espère que vous aimerez le diaporama que j’ai préparé…Amusez-vous!

Monique and I are spending a long weekend in Iqaluit, the capital of Nunavut.  We arrived Friday July 20th and will be leaving Monday night.  When you get here you realize that you’re pretty far up north.  We haven’t seen a tree in the 3 days that we have been here.  The only thing that really grows here is lichen and small artic flowers and berries.  But in revenge, there is plenty of rocks as witnessed by the number of inukshuks that we have seen.  It’s midnight now and while there is no sun, it’s still not completely dark.  The sun will rise at about 3:30 AM.
